In the market
Thursday, August 24, 2006
I have one of those snazzy over the ear headset/mic combos for making voip internet phone calls from my computer. It looks so great in the pictures. Unfortunately, I must be possessed of a defective ear, because near as I can tell, it's primary function is to fall off my ear when I'm in mid-sentence.
Plus I wear glasses, which I'm guessing is not a good combination. Therefore, I am in the market for a new PC telephony device and fortuitously, look what arrived in my inbox. An announcement for a new USB voip phone. Must be my lucky day, because it also runs about $25, instead of the eleventy million I was prepared to shell out.
ATCOM Company's AU100 has a USB 2.0 interface and support for numerous popular softphone applications, a nice departure from one-trick voip phones.
It also boasts a 16 bit sound card and driverless installation with Windows 98 or higher and Mac OS 9 or higher operating systems.
At $25, this voip phone doesn't have to dazzle me; decent audio and I'll be just about thrilled.
