Affiliates Outside the U.S.

Friday, September 22, 2006

Many affiliate programs without international networks allow affiliates to join their network outside the United States. These international advertisers are capable of bringing excellent sales. They are skilled in online marketing, have access to cheap labor and often have their own call centers.

The problems usually arise in three areas:

1. Payment: PayPal is now offered in many countries but wire transfers are also common especially if other payment methods are not available. Wire transfer fees and currency exchange rates highly increase the costs, which are almost always paid by the affiliates. To make international recruitment more cost effective, expenses can be reduced by higher commissions payment thresholds and less frequent payments. Although these options may sound less attractive at first, economically they make sense in the long term.

2. Communication: website content, cold calling and other communication channels all require proper English to be effective. Customers are less likely to consider information sources credible if they are grammatically incorrect.

3. Monitoring: illegal commercial activities are practiced worldwide. A U.S.-based publisher has little control over tracking and monitoring illegal online marketing tools that can easily damage the company's reputation.
