Going After a Little Extra? Try it Offline

Friday, September 15, 2006

Some industries, products or product categories are way too competitive for many affiliates selling online, especially those with lower budgets. While the Internet is wide open and there is a lot of room to squeeze in more, online advertising can quite often be a waste of time and money.

You don't always have to go after ten million potential customers, when a thousand will do just fine for a little pocket money - with minimum marketing costs.

Let's say you want to sell voice-over-IP. Go to a college. Students spend a lot time on the phone and they always want to save money - while expecting top features such as three-way calling or selective call acceptance. Also think about foreign students, who make regular international calls. Now you really have a selling point! So walk in and post it on their bulletin board - the one made of cork, not of ones and zeros. You can also have students do the work for you. Just be creative and make up your own promotion.

If you decide to go offline, make sure to direct your customers to the right place otherwise your commission will not be credited to your account. Furthermore, make sure your offline marketing tools are legal. You can't just walk around stapling flyers all over in the city.
