How do I configure the phone adapter with an Actiontec modem?
Verizon's FiOS service uses an advanced Actiontec modem and generally requires additional set-up. We highly recommend asking Verizon's customer service to assist you in making these changes.
If the Voip.com Phone Adapter is unable to connect to the Internet and place a phone call, we recommend the following steps:
- Go into the Actiontec router GUI interface and click the Advanced icon.
- From the Advanced control panel, click on IP Address Distribution.
- Click on the Connection List button and then click on New Static Connection.
- Name the Host Voip Phone Adapter and assign the unit an IP address in the correct range from the Actiontec router.
- The Actiontec router modem uses 192.168.1.x as an addressing scheme; we recommend assigning the Voip.com Phone Adapter 192.168.1.30
- You will need the MAC address of the Voip.com Phone Adapter box. This value is listed on the bottom of your phone adapter and is the WAN MAC ID.
- Once you have this configured, the connection should show in your main menu of connections.
- Now, click the security icon
- Click port forwarding.
- You will need to use the ADD option.
- Type in the IP of the Voip.com Phone Adapter, 192.168.1.30
- Behind protocol click on ADD again
- Click on Add Server Ports
- Set your protocol as UDP Inbound and Outbound set to single and enter port 53
- Click OK
- Click Add Server Ports again
- Protocol UDP
- Inbound and Outbound single port this time its 123
- Your next UDP port is again single, 21
- Your next UDP port is a range, 5060-5061
- Your next UDP port is a range, 10000-20000
- Your last UDP port is single, 69
- When you are finished you will have a rule showing ALL of these ports for the connection
