Make sure that cordless phones don’t interfere with your wireless home network.

Cordless phones work on one of three frequencies: 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, or 5 GHz. Unfortunately, home wireless networks also operate in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz ranges, which can cause performance busting interference for voip, web browsing, and online gaming.

If your cordless phones are sharing the same frequency as your network you have several options. You could change to a different frequency phone or wireless router, but that can be pricey. Instead, you might want to try changing the channel on your phone, move the phone base as far as possible from your router, or point the cordless phone’s antenna down. Also, some newer cordless phone systems use a frequency hopping system that should minimize any interference.
