I Thought Voip Was Supposed to be Free
Some types of voip calls don't cost a penny beyond what you spend for your broadband connection. Computer-to-computer calls fall into this category. If you use your computer or voip-enabled phone to call a number connected to the PSTN, however, you'll end up paying for the privilege of using their lines.
Voip phone service providers also have to pay taxes and regulatory fees, just like the phone company, so that gets passed on to consumers. Even with the fees and monthly service charges, however, voip phone accounts are a lot less expensive than the plans available from your local PSTN phone company.
