Why should I keep a backup landline?

Backup landlines are useful for a couple of reasons, the first being that you may have no choice in the matter. Bundled broadband packages are often the only option available in areas where high-speed Internet access is provided by the same company that serves up the community’s phone or cable service. But even if you’re not being forced into keeping that basic landline, there are two other reasons you might want to hang onto it. Voip can get knocked out if there’s a power failure or the network goes offline. A landline isn’t affected by those vulnerabilities, so it’s nearly always available if you need to call 911. Also, some alarm companies won’t permit clients to set up their alarm system on a voip line, because the equipment is only compatible with a traditional copper wire landline.
