How do I troubleshoot Choppy/Echo/static/ garbled /One-way/Dropped calls
If you are having voice quality issues check that your network is set-up for the best performance.
1. Check to see that you are not utilizing any bandwidth hogs on your network. (Examples of these can be File Sharing (or P2P) applications, uploading large files with FTP programs, sending emails with very large attachments, or other types of activities where you may be using your bandwidth to send large files. If you are running any of these programs, try pausing the activity and see if your phone quality returns to normal.
2. Make sure your voip.com Phone Adapter (router) is well ventilated and has not overheated
3. Keep your voip.com Phone Adapter (router) at least 3 feet away from any electronic device that may cause interference
4. If you are using multiple routers and other networking equipment, try plugging your voip.com Phone Adapter directly into the Internet modem.
5. Reboot the voip.com phone adapter by following these steps:
Unplug the power cable from the voip.com phone adapter.
Wait 2 minutes. (This is very important, because it gives the phone adapter time to reset)
Plug the power cable into the voip.com phone adapter.
6. Reboot your network. To do this first shut off your computer, your voip.com phone adapter, existing router (if you have one) and DSL/cable modem. Then, turn the devices back on one at time in this order: DSL/cable modem, existing router (if you have one), voip.com phone adapter then your computer.
7. Run a speed test from our website at: http://www.voip.com/voip_tools.aspx if your speed is slow you may have to contact your Internet service provider.
