I don’t hear a dial tone

If you are not getting a dial tone we recommend the following troubleshooting steps:

1. First check to see if you are able to access the Internet, if not the problem may be with your internet connection. Check with your Internet service provider to find out if there are connection issues in your area or a problem with your connection.

2. Check to see if the voip.com adapter's Internet LED is lit. If not the problem may be with your internet connection.

3. Check with your Internet service provider to find out if there are connection issues in your area or a problem with your connection.

4. Check to make sure your phone is plugged into the phone adapter’s phone 1 position

5. Check to make sure your phone adapter is powered on and the phone 1 light is on

6. Be sure your telephone, which is plugged into the voip.com adapter, is disconnected from the wall telephone jacks (the ones you use for traditional phone company service). Voip won't work if the phone is still plugged in to a wall jack.

7. Disconnect and re-connect the RJ-11 Telephone cable between the voip.com phone adapter and the telephone.

8. Make sure your telephone is set to its tone setting (not pulse)

9. Reboot the phone adapter by following these step:
Unplug the power cable from the voip.com phone adapter.
Wait 2 minutes. (this is very important, because it gives the phone adapter time to reset)
Plug the power cable into the voip.com phone adapter.

10. Reboot your network. To do this first shut off your computer, your voip.com phone adapter, existing router (if you have one) and DSL/cable modem. Then, turn the devices back on one at time in this order: DSL/cable modem, existing router (if you have one), voip.com phone adapter then your computer.
